Since its inception in 1998, The Portsmouth Valkyries have gone from strength to strength. With 2 full squads, the women’s set up boasts over 60 registered players and a fully qualified coaching team.
In the upcoming 25/26 season, our 1st team is competing in NC1 (the 4th tier of women’s rugby) and our 2nd team competes in NC3.
The Valkyries are not short on ambition and every season a number of our players achieve selection to represent Hampshire County. Alongside this we also see many of our players selected to represent the Royal Navy in both their union and league teams. Last year we saw 10+ Valkyries selected to play at Twickenham in their huge Army v Navy fixture.
We are also proud to be linked to the University of Portsmouth and see many of their squad play and develop alongside us. One of our proudest achievements over the last season is setting up our Players’ Pathway. This scheme looks to bridge the gap between girls & womens rugby and we’ve had a really positive result from our monthly sessions.
The Valkyries are very much a family, and work as hard off the pitch as on it. There are always regular socials and events to give the players opportunities to relax away from the rigours of rugby.
We train Tuesdays & Thursdays evenings at Rugby Camp on Norway Rd, PO3 5EP. We train from 7pm – 8:30pm and are always welcoming down new and experienced players.
