Welcome to Mini Rugby at Portsmouth Rugby Football Club — the perfect place for children aged under 6 to under 11 to learn, play, and love the game of rugby in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment.

Our Teams

Who Can Join?

We welcome boys and girls from age 5 (Reception/Year 1) up to age 11 (Year 7). Players are grouped by school year into age-based teams (e.g., U6, U7, U8… up to U12).

No experience is necessary — just a willingness to try something new!

What Do Minis Learn?

At Portsmouth RFC, we focus on:

• Fun and teamwork
• Basic skills: passing, catching, running, tagging/tackling
• Confidence and coordination
• Respect and sportsmanship

Training and matches follow RFU age-grade rugby guidelines, meaning the game grows with the players — starting with tag rugby and gradually introducing safe, age-appropriate contact elements (like tackling and small scrums) as they develop.

When and Where?

Training takes place every Sunday morning during the rugby season (September to April) at:
Portsmouth RFC, Rugby Camp, Norway Road, Portsmouth PO3 5EP
Arrival: 9:45 AM
Training: 10:00–11:30 AM (approx.)

Matches against other local clubs are also arranged throughout the season, especially for U9s and above.

Parents Welcome

We encourage parents and carers to stay, watch, and get involved — either on the sidelines or by volunteering to help the team. Rugby is a community sport, and we’re proud of the welcoming, supportive environment at PRFC.

All our coaches are RFU-trained and DBS-checked to ensure a safe experience for every child.
