Portsmouth 1st XV 25 v Hove 28
A painful, narrow late defeat leaves the 1st XV 4th from bottom, just 4 points above Trojans. By the end of the first 20 minutes Pompey were 17 - 0 up with the wind on their backs, but then failed to add any more points in the rest of the half. Hove hit back early in the 2nd half, 17 - 7, but then Pompey dominated much of the 2nd half until their tactics of playing an expansive game allowed Hove through to score 2 more tries, 17 - 19. A 3rd try from Pompey followed by a Hove drop goal & a penalty, saw the 2 teams locked at 25 - 25 in the final minute, before a penalty resulting from the final play of the match saw Hove win 25 - 28.

Vets 36 v Stoneham 15
Yet another victory for the Hampshire Veterans Cup Champions! The vets got off to a slow start & Stoneham scored 1st, thanks to Ken Ross, loaned to the opposition. Things soon got back on track with some excellent forward drives, with fantastic support and encouragement, backed up by sterling runs by debutants and finished off with a Mat Gronow try from close range which evened the score. The loan of HVCC Ross continued to help out Stoneham as he chipped ahead for one of the Stoneham players to score. Gronow continued to make up for the disappointment of being substituted in the cup final by flopping over the line for two more tries. This gave him four tries in one game more than his total for the previous two seasons! The game was clinched for Portsmouth with a wonderful individual try from HVCC skipper Jonah Jones.
