Sunday 23rd September 2007
Tottonians Colts 7 – 46 Portsmouth
Colts
The
second week of the Colts League had Portsmouth
visiting Tottonians.
Portsmouth were aiming to build on their opening day victory,
consolidating their position and also blooding some younger colts.
Playing
into a stiff breeze, Portsmouth
took their time in settling with the Tottonians pack being the more aggressive
in the opening exchanges. Tottonians failed to score and from Portsmouth’s first meaningful attack
the ball was out through the hands and Charlie
Stickley crossed for the opening try. This settled Portsmouth who slowly gained the upper hand
in most exchanges. Two tries from Anthony
Fooks, one from Luke with Matt Painter adding two conversions
gave Portsmouth
a commanding 24 point to nil lead at half time.
With
the game virtually won, Portsmouth
made a number of changes at half time to give as much experience to the squad
as possible. Portsmouth
scored four further tries with Mike
Haggard claiming a brace, Lee
Chandler and Luke crossing for
his second. One was converted by Matt
Painter. Tottonians did score a well worked converted try, but by then the
match was over as a contest.
So
a solid start to the season but plenty of work to do.
